I wasn’t planning on announcing my second pregnancy quite yet. Perhaps I should have thought of that before I mentioned it to the reporter from CNN who was interviewing me about things I’d learned and experienced during pregnancy.
Oh well. These things happen.
So, surprise!! And in case you’re remembering my declaration in our Christmas letter that we wouldn’t be announcing a new baby anytime soon … I was already pregnant when I penned that, but didn’t know it. I knew it shortly thereafter though, and have been enjoying frequent reminders in the form of nausea, fatigue, and headaches ever since.
No mood swings though. None. And if Mike says otherwise, don’t believe him.
I’m just over eight weeks pregnant now, so all going well, the new baby will be born in August right around the time our first baby turns two. I will likely be in Australia for the birth, based out of my parent’s house again. And apart from that, a lot of other variables are still up in the air. More on those variables in coming weeks.
We did have an early ultrasound at the local hospital here, though. Our language skills didn’t stretch far enough to pick up on any of the technical details, but we understood enough to know that the little one has parked their being in the right location and that there seems to be bo mi ben ha (no problems) at this stage.
And to that, we say a great big hooray.
PS. Here’s how Dominic has taken the news:
“What exactly do you mean when you say that I’m going to be a big brother?”
Â
“Because you’re starting to scare me with all this talk of sharing, and how my life is going to change …”
Â
“Oh, you guys. You almost had me. Then you said that I was going to learn that I wasn’t the center of the universe and I realized that you simply must be joking. Good one.”
So, friends, what’s new in your life lately?

Adorable the photos and sayings…witty and delightful the blog post.
We are so excited for you all. Dominic is just too cute. Happy early pregnancy Lisa.
Thanks Sandy! Glad to hear you’re enjoying France after making the leap!
Congratulations! That’s going to be an exciting year again. I hope that the nausea will go away soon.
And, as always, great photos of Dominic.
Yes. We’ve had a string of exciting years. Let’s hope 2013 ranks higher on the fun-exciting scale than 2012 did.
Is he Dominic really going to be TWO this year? What? I…how did that happen?
And CONGRATULATIONS! Aww, this is great news. I really hope baby gets Dominic’s sense of adventure, so that we get two times the dirt-eating, Zulu-tail-pulling photos 🙂
What a wonderful start to your 2013.
Poor Zulu. He’s already a skittish, baby-wary dog. I’m not sure he’ll survive two. And I have no idea how 15 months have passed since D was born. None.
Congratulations to the three of you!
Thanks Trez. How are you enjoying ND?
Again, so happy for you!
Thanks, friend. When are you coming home?
Congratulations to the whole family! And best wishes for your health and strength, Lisa! What exciting news!!
Thanks Rachel!
Congrats! 2 years difference is hard at first. But we found that 18-24 months was actually a pretty easy transition for previous baby. more than 24 months, they really had decided they were the center of the universe.
Thanks for this, Richelle. Dominic will be right on 24 months, though I’m pretty sure he will be firmly convinced he’s the center of the universe before then. He’s well on his way now 🙂
What a fantastic post and such perfectly captioned photos! Congratulations and I look forward to reading more about Dominic’s big brother preparation!
Thanks Dee Dee …
